4 Fives

Using standard mathematical symbols, e.g. +, -, x, etc., rearrange (4) fives to equal the numbers one to ten.  For example, 5/5 + 5 – 5 = 1, 5/5 + 5/5 = 2, etc.

Note : you can use decimal point (.) only once.

Circle & Rectangle [Answered]

Answer

Using Pythagoras’ Theorem:
for the right-angled triangle in the figure
(r – a)2 + (r – b)2 = r2
Now, a = 6 cm and b = 12 cm. So,
(r – 6)2 + (r – 12)2 = r2 or
r2 – 2(6)r + 62 + r2 – 2(12)r + 122 = r2. This simplifies to
r2 – 36r + 180 = 0. On factorizing, we get
(r – 30)(r – 6) = 0.
Thus, the radius of the circle is 30 cm.

Area = 30 * 30 * pi.
